A Pig's Tale: Hog Named 6-7 Pardoned by Miami Dade County Mayor.
It might not have been at the identical stature as pardoning holiday birds, but the mayor of Miami-Dade conducted a Donald Trump moment this week by ceremoniously saving the life of a pig named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava performed the seasonal stunt at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the center of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.
“The swine has done no wrong. She is worthy of this pardon. No offenses are on her docket,” stated the mayor in a speech with obvious nods to the sheer volume of executive clemencies issued since the commencement of a second term in office.
“Except perhaps for eating half a dozen apples per day,” Levine Cava continued. “Let this swine have a long and happy life away from worry.”
The event, either celebrating or rejecting the region’s Hispanic tradition of feasting on pork during the holidays, was established to replicate the yearly bird sparing at the White House.
The swine, contributed by a first responder, was named for the current slang trend of young people shouting “six seven” – deriving from a rap song lyric – often seemingly at random. The craze became so widespread that a prominent word reference recently declared “six-seven” its 2025 word of the year.
A New Life
Six Seven the pig is now set to enjoy its days at a farm sanctuary “far from charcoal and roasting pans”, according to the organizers' announcement.
“The annual pig pardon has become one of our favorite ways to begin the festive period,” said Eric Castellanos, in a decidedly positive message.
“It represents the character of Miami: happy, diverse, and grounded in customs that bring people together. Every time, we are delighted to mark tradition and kindness in a way distinctively Miamian.”
Guests enjoyed a plant-based fare of spinach croquetas and Cuban coffee as they celebrated the swine's new lease on life.
