Antony Price, Famed for Designing for David Bowie and Duran Duran, Has Died Aged 80.
Antony Price, the visionary British fashion designer responsible for some of the most iconic looks associated with David Bowie, Roxy Music, and Queen Camilla, has sadly died at the age of 80.
He was celebrated for his sculptured silhouettes and performative fashion, such as the light-hued ensembles that appeared in rock band Duran Duran's classic music video for "Rio".
"Remembering him as a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' the band released a statement online."
This news arrives shortly after he debuted his newest line in London, his first in more than 30 years. Artist Lily Allen walked in a dress that paid homage to the famous black velvet "dress" historically worn by Diana, Princess of Wales.
A Pioneering Career
Born in Yorkshire in 1945, Price headed for London at the start of the 1960s to attend the esteemed Royal College of Art.
Upon completing his studies, he began designing clothing for men at the label Stirling Copper and was the creator of the form-fitting, button-fly pants that The Rolling Stones' frontman Mick Jagger wore during The Rolling Stones' Gimme Shelter tour in 1969.
He established his eponymous line in 1979 and presented his inaugural collection a year later. The show was launched by creations worn by model Jerry Hall, who also wore the marriage dress Price designed for her for her nuptials with Sir Mick Jagger.
Partnerships with Stars
A frequent collaborator of the late David Bowie, Price was the mind behind the iconic jacket the artist wore for his "the song As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.
His characteristic talent to merge menswear and womenswear along with his expert craftsmanship in designing form-fitting garments established him as a "true original," in the words of the British Fashion Council.
During the nineties, he commenced designing pieces for the then-Duchess of Cornwall, Camilla, including various looks for her US tour after becoming Duchess.
With a vocation that covered half a century, Price staged what would be his last show in London last month in collaboration with the design house 16Arlington.

- Performative Style: Shaping the look of rock and pop.
- Genre-Blending Design: Blurring lines between clothing for men and women.
- Clients from Stage to Palace: Spanning iconic musicians and members of the royal family.
Design circles says farewell to a genuine innovator whose legacy on the visual landscape of music remains deeply ingrained.
