Arne Slot Maintains He Is Safe and Retains The Club's Support Following PSV Eindhoven Loss
Arne Slot acknowledged that it was natural for doubts to be raised about his position after another convincing defeat versus PSV Eindhoven.
Liverpool suffered their ninth loss in twelve matches, representing the team's poorest streak since being demoted in the 1953-54 season.
They were dominated by the Dutch league champions on a punishing night at their home ground.
“I'm confident, I am OK, I've received a lot of support from management,” the coach remarked.
“It's important to change things and get a victory of course but if you are working as a coach and not doing well then it's expected that questions are asked.”
He noted, “I am OK with my position. This isn't the initial instance I've found myself in a challenging situation but it's necessary that we changed our fortunes.”
Conversations with Club Management
Upon being questioned to elaborate on his dialogues with the club's leadership, Slot revealed:
“There's regular dialogue. They are helpful to the team and to me and we discuss these matters but they don't phone me all the time each day to say they back me.”
He further stated, “In the normal discussions I perceive the belief. But I've not talked to them after this defeat yet so it remains to be seen.”
Persistent Issues and Player Response
Slot expressed regret over recurring failings from his team in their European loss, specifically poor finishing and leaking goals.
Meanwhile, player Curtis Jones was more forthright in his evaluation of the team's situation.
“I don’t have the solutions. Honestly, I do not. I'm telling that to everyone,” the midfielder remarked.
“It's simply unacceptable. I don't need to wait to consider it. I'm beyond feeling anger internally. I’m at the point currently where I just don’t have the words.”
He continued, “It’s hard because I play for the club I love. I'm a supporter, and I’ve seen this club for years.”
“In a long, long time, I haven’t experienced a Reds side going through a period such as this with performances this poor.”
He concluded, “However we still have the crest on our chest. And as long as it is removed, we’re always going to compete.”
“We will attempt to get this team back to the top, show everyone again the values of this club and why it's known as the top club in the planet.”
“However currently, we’re in the shit and we have to turn it around.”
