Accounts emerged of multiple explosions and the roar of low-altitude jets in the Venezuelan capital in the pre-dawn hours of the weekend. This incident has led to accusations from the Venezuelan government and requests for global scrutiny.

Venezuela Blames United States of Aggression

The authoritarian administration has accused the US of an act of "foreign aggression," alleging that ex- President Trump supposedly authorized attacks against the South American country. In an official declaration, the authorities stated that strikes had targeted the capital and three other regions: Miranda, La Guaira, and Aragua state.

"Our only objective of these strikes is to take control of our nation's natural resources, especially its oil and minerals," the statement said.

Venezuelan officials called on the global community to denounce the operations, which it labeled a "blatant breach of global law" that put countless of civilians in danger.

Accounts of Explosions and Defense Installations Hit

Locals spoke of feeling roughly several powerful blasts around the middle of the night in the morning. Residents in various neighborhoods allegedly ran into the streets outside.

"The whole ground shook. It was terrifying. We heard explosions and jets in the sky," commented one witness.

Plumes of smoke was reported billowing from two military installations in the city: the La Carlota airfield and the Fuerte Tiuna base army base, where leader Nicolás Maduro is reported to live.

Regional Response

The president of neighboring Colombia, claimed on social media that "Right now they are attacking Caracas... bombing it with missiles." He demanded an urgent meeting of the United Nations Security Council.

The Colombian government, which recently joined the Security Council, said it would initiate security measures at its frontier with its neighbor.

Preceding Events

These reported strikes follow a extended pressure campaign by the Trump administration against the Venezuelan administration. Beginning in August, authorities reported a significant American military presence off the country's Caribbean coast and a series of strikes on boats accused of illegal activities.

Venezuela's administration has stated "the implementation of external disturbance" and ordered all national defense measures to be initiated. It has also summoned its political forces to mobilize and "denounce this imperialist act."
