Catherine's Annual Yuletide Carol Concert Spotlights Charity Helpers

The Princess of Wales is hosting her customary Yuletide celebration at the historic Abbey, with attendees featuring members of the royal family, famous faces, and community champions who have helped their communities.

The sizable congregation will hear a blend of carols, music and readings from performers including Kate Winslet and Chiwetel Ejiofor.

A Theme of Love and Generosity

The focus of the event, held in the candle-lit Abbey on Friday, is generosity and expressing affection towards one's neighbour.

Attending the event are Anna and Jonathan Cordiner, whose daughter died of a brain cancer, and who founded an organisation, a charity called Kayleigh's Wee Stars, to aid parents with a youngster facing a life-limiting condition.

"Your efforts, love, and understanding, often without fanfare or recognition, and without any thought of thanks or praise, make an profound impact to the circumstances of individuals," Her Royal Highness stated in a message before the carol service.

A Steady Comeback

The royal has been undertaking her own measured re-emergence to official duties subsequent to her illness and medical care, in November making her major oration since 2023, in which she talked about recognising the "selfless, commonly overlooked efforts of carers".

Music and Opportunity

Those coming to the Abbey will enjoy performances from young musicians supported by the Future Talent organisation, co-founded by the former royal to widen access to musical tuition.

Carys Wood, aged 18, who is a trumpet player and is from southwest Wales, has been supported by the charity, with funding assisting with musical instruments, lessons and travel costs - and she said it was "amazing" to be performing at the evening's event.

"Pursuing music is often costly," the musician remarked. She is now enrolled at the renowned conservatoire, and added that "all people deserve the chance" to develop their musical skills.

A Family Affair

Carys's 11-year-old sister, Eliza, who plays the euphonium, will likewise attend the Abbey. "I never thought I'd be able to play there in front of so many distinguished guests," she said.

Among the guests will be individuals spanning multiple eras.

That will feature nine-year-old Saphia Turner, winner of a prize for youthful altruism, who produces drawings and undertakes charity feats to raise money for local food charities.

Festive Decor and Performances

The Abbey has been decorated with handcrafted festive wreaths, with celebrity baker Mary Berry and floral designer Simon Lycett helping to make them.

The musical lineup includes singer Katie Melua, the Westminster Abbey choristers and a nautical singing ensemble, the Fisherman's Friends, who said the chance to take part was "the icing on the cake for us."

The Together at Christmas carol concert will be broadcast on television on December 24th.
