One extended journey around Australia was terminated days after the tragic passing of an older female passenger who was left behind by the vessel on a remote coastal location.

The passenger had been walking on Lizard Island with shipmates from the Coral Adventurer, but broke off from the group for a rest. The ship left without her and went back several hours later after the ship staff discovered the passenger was not present.

An extensive search operation found her person the following day.

Investigative bodies are investigating the incident, in coordination with law enforcement and the state coroner.

Chief Executive of the cruise operator announced that travelers and personnel on the vessel were told that the continuation of the cruise had been cancelled due to the "tragic passing and prior technical problems".

Via official communication, he mentioned that travelers would be issued a complete reimbursement, and said the operator was working "to arrange the travel back of the travelers via private aircraft".

Authorities also released an latest announcement, and said they had "delivered a notice to the Master" banning any new passengers from getting on the ship.

The official said that they would inspect the liner in the port city upon its coming back.

Sequence of Occurrences

The liner first departed the Australian port on the 24th of October, and was only 48 hours into the journey at the point of the 80-year-old's death. The tropical location was the first stop on the itinerary.

Passengers on board - who generally pay substantial amounts of dollars to take part in the cruise - were ferried there for a shore visit with the choice of trekking or snorkelling.

Family Reaction

The offspring of the elderly passenger said that her relatives was "stunned and grieved that the ship left Lizard Island after an planned excursion without my mum".

Through her comments, she described her mother as an "vigorous octogenarian" who was a participant of a walking club.

"According to scant information we have been informed, it appears that there was a breakdown of care and ordinary reasoning," she mentioned.

She further stated that she hoped the investigation would be able to determine what "the organization should have undertaken that might have saved Mum's existence".

Organization Response

Through an announcement, the Chief Executive confirmed that the organization was "collaborating extensively with officials to support their examination".

He stated that the company was "very regretful that this has happened" and had provided its full support to the family.

Shipping Sector Standards

The ship caters for up to one hundred twenty travelers with 46 crew, according to corporate data. It was purpose-built to reach isolated locations of Australia's coastline and is fitted with "tenders" - small boats used to transport travelers on land visits.

Incidents of this nature are uncommon, and cruise ships have procedures to document which individuals are boarding or getting off, according to travel authorities.

"Sneaking ashore or [back] aboard simply isn't an possibility," one expert commented.

Shipping companies take these procedures very seriously and have "clever tech in place to avoid such occurrences from taking place," the expert continued.
