Officials has denied these claims, consistent with how it refutes each claim it is accused of. Yet as grieving children who lost parents are now enduring frigid conditions in makeshift tent camps, there is a little heartwarming news: nothing is going to stop the Eurovision song contest from advancing its professed goal of “togetherness and artistic sharing.” The contest will continue to extend a blood-red carpet for Israel, despite the fact that at least four European countries have now withdrawn in objection. None of this, it would seem, should be allowed to get in the way of Eurovision’s self-proclaimed spirit of unity.

The Show Goes On Against a Backdrop of Staggering Tragedy

Eurovision reaches its seventieth anniversary next year – nearly twice the projected longevity of a person in Gaza today. The show may go on, but it will find it impossible to reclaim the camp joy it was formerly known for. An institution that was originally built on peace has devolved into a blatant mechanism to provide a cultural veneer for conflict.
