Iranian forces say they have struck a US naval base in Bahrain, as the country executed operations throughout the Middle East in response for a "massive" and ongoing attack targeting the nation by the US and Israel.

Large columns of dark smoke were observed billowing from an zone in the area of the main base of the US Navy's Fifth Fleet in Bahrain's capital, Manama. The scope of any damage is uncertain and the US has yet to issue a statement.

Missile Defenses Activated

Elsewhere across the region, the United Arab Emirates, the State of Qatar and the State of Kuwait - each hosting US military bases - said they have intercepted missiles in their airspace.

In Doha, the Qatari Ministry of Defence stated it had intercepted several missiles apparently targeting the al-Udeid air base, the largest American base in the Middle East.

Iran's Declared Retaliation

The Iranian Revolutionary Guard declared it was striking American facilities and interests as part of operation "Truthful Promise 4", in response for the attack on Iran launched by the United States and its ally Israel on Saturday.

That US-Israeli operation - launched at around 06:15 GMT - has so far struck locations associated with the Iranian leadership, with President Trump encouraging the Iranian people to revolt against the government.

Regional Fallout

In the State of Israel, sirens were heard nationwide after the Israeli military reported it had detected an barrage of missiles from Iran.

The defence ministry of the United Arab Emirates stated that the nation has been subjected to a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".

"UAE air defence systems responded to the projectiles with high efficiency and destroyed a several projectiles," the statement continued.

It said debris landed in a residential area in the capital, resulting in some material damage and fatalities.

The US Air Force is stationed at Al Dhafra Air Base, south of Abu Dhabi, along with the Emirati Air Force.
