New Particulars Come to Light Regarding the Discovery of the Reiner Couple's Bodies
Recent details have emerged regarding the shocking demises of acclaimed film director Rob Reiner and visual artist Michele Singer Reiner, whose bodies were discovered at their residence property on Sunday.
A Discovery
As detailed in an account quoting a family associate, a massage therapist arriving for an appointment first raised the alarm after not being able to enter the home. The practitioner then contacted the couple's daughter, Romy Reiner, who resides in the vicinity.
After gaining access to the residence, Romy discovered her father's body. Reports state she then fled the house in anguish, not realizing at that moment that her mother's body was there as well. A companion who had accompanied her contacted 911. Following this, paramedics discovered Michele Singer Reiner's body.
Criminal Developments
Authorities have charged the couple's 32-year-old son, Nick Reiner, with the charges of murder in the first degree, as well as the alleged use of a deadly weapon, reportedly a knife. He is now detained without bail.
Disputed Reports
The anonymous source also disputed several earlier details. They said that while Romy Reiner informed first responders that her brother Nick resided in a guesthouse on the property, she did not name him as a potential suspect at that juncture.
Furthermore refuted circulated suggestions that Rob and Michele Singer Reiner had been particularly "concerned" about Nick's behavior in recent weeks. Instead the family was "used to working through [Nick's] problems together."
This correction applies to accounts of reportedly "unpredictable" conduct by Nick at a party hosted by Conan O'Brien on the night before the bodies were found. While the source said they were not in a position to confirm whether Rob had "scolded" his son at the party, they asserted that reports of a "major confrontation" between the two were untrue.
Ongoing Inquiry Details
Per law enforcement officials, the medical examiner had yet to determine at that point whether the Reiners died on Saturday evening or on Sunday. Some accounts indicated the state of their bodies suggested they had been dead for some hours.
Nick Reiner was arrested at around 9:30 p.m. on Sunday in the Exposition Park area, some 15 miles from the residence. He was due to appear in court on Tuesday, but his legal counsel, Alan Jackson, indicated his client had not received medical clearance and would not be present until no sooner than Wednesday.
