Supporters Urge Custody of Person Who Grabbed Ariana Grande
Passionate followers of the actress are urging that a man who leaped a barrier and seized the performer during Thursday's Wicked: For Good premiere be taken into custody or removed from Singapore.
A widely shared footage shows the person identified as Johnson Wen pushing past camera operators and charging at Grande while the cast made its way down a event pathway flanked by onlookers.
Cast member Cynthia Erivo quickly pulled the shocked actress away from Mr Wen, who was spotted being led away of the gathering by security officers.
Mr Wen stated on Instagram Thursday evening that he was "free after being arrested", though court documents revealed that he was scheduled to attend court on Friday morning. It is unknown if he was charged.
History of Disruptions
This is not the first time for Mr Wen, who labels himself a "Notorious Troublemaker", has crashed a performance. His Instagram account features clips of him disrupting other high-profile occasions, including jumping on stage at Katy Perry's Sydney concert in recently and in a comparable manner during The Chainsmokers concert in the same location last December.
"Steps should be implemented taken against him as this is evidently a punishable act," wrote an Instagram commenter, in a message to a video Mr Wen uploaded of his actions.
"Oh wow so you do this a lot... how aren't you in jail?" a different Instagram user wrote.
Fans Voice Worry Over Grande's Past Trauma
Numerous followers accused Mr Wen for "causing further distress" Grande, who had spoken of experiencing trauma-related anxiety after a devastating incident at the conclusion of her spring 2017 show in Manchester, claiming the lives of 22 people and wounding numerous individuals.
"After everything she's faced... including the Manchester attack, you considered it entertaining to rush the barrier?" said a further comment on Instagram.
Some supporters also questioned security officers at the gathering for not being sufficiently alert; while some requested online networks to block Mr Wen's videos.
Aftermath and Premiere Information
In clips shared widely, Grande appeared surprised when she was grabbed by the intruder. Her fellow actors Michelle Yeoh and Erivo can be spotted comforting her while Mr Wen was led out by security.
Grande has not commented on the incident, and the premiere activities proceeded as normal.
Numerous of attendees had assembled in a mass of emerald and rose at the Wicked: For Good international launch in a Singapore mall, including a number who had stood in line for as long as eight hours before it started.
The film, to be released on November 21, is the follow-up of a two-film version of the acclaimed stage show Wicked, which revolves around the unexpected relationship between two very different sorceresses.
The musical itself is a spin-off of the classic book The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Grande, who acts as the good witch Glinda, was dressed in a champagne pink glittering gown at the premiere while Erivo, who acts as the Elphaba, wore a sleek black dress decorated with roses.
They were accompanied by co-star Jeff Goldblum.
The initial film, Wicked, was the most successful movie of last year in the UK, and received ten award recognitions, earning two for outstanding attire and production design.
