Trump Calls Relatives of Injured Guard Personnel to the White House
President Trump stated on the weekend that he has asked the family of a National Guard member killed last week to visit the presidential home.
He added that he spoke to her parents and they were “heartbroken”.
Background on the Devastating Incident
US army specialist Sarah Beckstrom, 20, was lost her life in a violent incident on last Wednesday in Washington DC.
Her comrade, Andrew Wolfe, twenty-four years old, continues receiving treatment in grave state.
Vigils across West Virginia have taken place in their honor.
White House Offer
The president explained he’s talked about a meeting at the presidential residence for the parents of both soldiers of the West Virginia National Guard.
“I told them: ‘When you’re able, because that’s a difficult moment, visit the White House. We’re going to recognize her,” the president addressed reporters. “And likewise with him, whether he recovers or not.”
Public Support
Community members came together over the past few days at a local school in the state to honor Sarah.
Both they had been fulfilling duties with the West Virginia National Guard as part of the president’s government program to assist law enforcement in Washington DC.
Paying Tribute to Sarah Beckstrom
“Sarah was the kind of student that teachers wished for. She conducted herself with calm resilience, a contagious smile and a upbeat demeanor that lifted people around her,” Jarrod Hankins, the principal of her previous school, stated to the press. “She was sweet, considerate and always willing to support those in need.”
Memorial plans for Sarah are yet to be finalized.
Legal Actions and Government Adjustments
Authorities have indicted a twenty-nine-year-old individual from Afghanistan with a charge of murder and two counts of violent assault while armed.
The incident caused the administration to pause asylum applications and cease issuing entry permits to owners of travel documents.
Status of Wolfe
Wolfe, a native of Martinsburg, enlisted in February 2019 and is a 2019 graduate of Musselman high school, as reported by the AP.
He remains under medical supervision and is “battling to survive”, West Virginia governor Patrick Morrisey stated on Fox News Channel’s The Sunday Briefing.
Attorney general the attorney general informed the program that she planned to meet with Wolfe’s family.
Memory of Sarah Beckstrom
Sarah, from Summersville, graduated from Webster County High in 2023 and began her service not long after, working as a MP with distinction, as stated by the state guard.
“She had a lot of compassion and she absolutely had courage,” Morrisey addressed the crowd at the service. “Though her time was cut short, she has made an impact that’s going to last forever.”
