McKenna's Position on Celtic

The Ipswich boss described the Glasgow giants as "an enormous soccer institution" but stressed he is "deeply involved" of a "extensive rebuilding" with the Championship side.

The 39-year-old assumed control of Ipswich in 2021 and led them to the English top flight with consecutive elevations, but they managed only four games last season as they were demoted back to the Championship and they presently occupy 12th in the Championship.

"I have not had such conversations," the English capital native former Northern Ireland youth international said when asked about being on Celtic's shortlist.

"This isn't a matter I have considered seriously, or where any part of my focus is currently.

"I possess a unique job here at a remarkable team. And we're at a really important phase of the campaign. Anything external hasn't touched my radar."

Background and Contractual Aspects

It has been suggested that McKenna would be willing to talk to the Scottish side given his boyhood allegiances.

"Growing up, we all have our affinities," he said when asked about these. "I don't think everyone has to publicly and declare what they used to be, but naturally it's a really big sports organization."

The coach agreed to a fresh multi-year deal in 2024 and was questioned about his alleged £5m release clause.

"In every manager's contract, there are provisions," he replied. "I don't know what mine are and, were I informed, I wouldn't disclose you anyway!

"I approach this job like I'll be Town's coach indefinitely. I know that's not always going to be the situation, but I will consistently do my best as long as I remain in position."

The Welsh Coach's Position

Bellamy played for Celtic on temporary transfer from the Magpies in the mid-2000s, but the ex- Wales forward is minded to complete the ongoing World Cup qualification, a stance that would effectively rule out the 46-year-old from immediately taking the Celtic job.

Wales are currently in third place in their World Cup group behind leaders the Red Devils and second-placed North Macedonia.

Wins over Liechtenstein and North Macedonia in November would book their place in the qualification play-offs, but they are virtually guaranteed of reaching that stage, due to a productive Nations League performance, should they not end up their group second place.

Considering his current position, Bellamy, whose agreement expires after the European Championship, would not be available until following the qualifying matches at the minimum.
